Title: Database Consultant
Duration: 8+ months
Location: San Jose, CA
Contract
Job Responsibilities:
As part of the Distributed Database team, you will be accountable for the deployment and support of ETL processes in data warehouse environments and database administration, database builds and tuning of mission critical databases on a Windows/Linux platform. You will help Distributed Database team in providing better technical solutions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Proficient analytical, problem solving, and fact finding skills
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work closely with the product development teams to identify defects and to recommend enhancements
- Ability to interact with all levels within the organization from technical staff to executive management
- Ability to define the technical infrastructure requirements
- Ability to review ongoing and proposed projects to identify opportunities for reuse and process improvement
- Ability to review project deliverables for completeness, quality, and compliance with established project standards
- Ability to document and communicate the status of progress against plans, taking corrective action as necessary
- Ability to identify, clarify, and resolve project activity issues and risks, escalating them as needed
- Ability to review technical documentation to verify compliance with client requirements and established architectural standards and guidelines
- Participate in 24x7 oncall support
Required Skills
- 3+ years of Pentaho, DataStage, Informatica or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of DB2 LUW/UDB or equivalent database administration experience, including query analysis and database tuning
- 3+ years of data warehouse / business intelligence (BI)
- Detail-oriented with a strong desire to learn new technologies
- Strong business and technology decision-making skills
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
Desired but not required:
- Experience with DB2 database administration on a Microsoft Windows platform
- Experience with windows / Linux / AIX
- Experience with scripting solutions
- Experience with large data migrations and long running batch processes
- Professional experience in the healthcare industry is preferred
Qualifications
- Relevant Bachelor's Degree such as Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Statistics, or equivalent experience
- Understand the systems development process and have a solid understanding of business processes
- Proven analytic skills and strong judgment
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Strong analytical and communication skills; works effectively with others
- Strong judgment, and ability to work effectively with multi-discipline teams and share knowledge to ensure team success
- Demonstrated diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication skills
