Data Center technician /Hardware Engineer

Location: Oxon Hill, Maryland

Duration: Long Term

 

The data center technician is responsible for providing on demand support for data center infrastructure.

 

This will involve in the following functions:

Installation and/or removal of mounting rails and/or mounting brackets inside hardware racks.

Installation and/or removal of cable management attachments.

The data center technician is responsible for providing on demand support data center infrastructure. This will involve in the following functions:

CAT5/6 & FC structured cabling – Cable trace, Crimp, FC testing, cable management, labeling.

Hardware installation – Racking & Stacking, Power On Self-Test (Cisco UCS, Nexus,  Netapp,Storage Cisco networking devices, PDU's, Wireless Access Points).

Basic understanding of datacenter power and cooling requirements.

Installation and/or removal of Ethernet, fiber, power and any other valid cables and label them with client assigned numbers on each end near the termination points.

Perform systematic data removal on devices being refreshed or decommissioned per client standard procedures using client provided disk wiping tools.

Removal of devices and mounting equipment from racks and package for shipment.

Perform various hardware modifications and replacements, including but not limited to, NIC cards, RAM memory, hard disk drives, cooling fans.

Package defective parts and provide to client per standard practice.

Performing server configurations.

Performing firmware, drivers and software upgrades

Creating new RMA requests through OEM vendors for both replacement devices,? as well as obtaining technical assistance when troubleshooting devices.

Tracking, maintaining and updating asset inventory of defective and replacement? parts.

Troubleshoot, tracing , looping links to locate the physical issue.

Tracing and isolating cables through patch panels.

Testing and cleaning fiber optic cables, and optical interfaces.

Schedule and perform network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks as needed? while limiting the impact on the production network

Working with other teams such as facilities and DC Ops to enlist their assistance? with items such as power and rack draining.

There is a significant amount of lifting, walking, pushing carts, carrying heavy devices,? and climbing ladders involved. We will also be using power tools for various? tasks.

Assist with on-site troubleshooting on devices that are down or not accessible by the client.

Perform quality hardware checks for all equipment installation, including but not limited to:

Check that cable labels are correct and plugged into assigned network ports on predetermined network switch.

Check cable runs are neat and secure.

Check that device is in correct location (unit, rack, row)

Check to ensure all power cords are secure and clipped into place.

Complete all checklists upon completion of work request.

Ensure client data center standards are followed.

Expert cabling techniques. Able to cable very dense server cabinets neatly and cleanly with or without cable management and makes use of best cabling practices.

Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency and on-time delivery.

Assist in the creation and maintenance of network and datacenter diagrams and detailed site documentation.

Perform physical inventory and audits of client assets.

Perform good receipt process of all arriving equipment.

Ensure proper storage of equipment as necessary.
