Location : Portland ,Maine
Duration : 6-12 months
                                   


General Summary

This is an individual contributor position responsible for data analysis, design and documentation for complex and/or enterprise-level business initiatives.   
This position works with other data analysts, business users and IT professionals to ensure that data requirements are met with the highest degree of
integrity and efficiency that is practical and cost effective.  
Its function is to ensure the understanding of complex data by business users and IT professionals, to oversee that data stores are designed in
compliance with corporate standards and to ensure that information is managed as a significant corporate asset.   
This position requires a college degree and/or equivalent data administration experience.

 
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 
Function as a consultant or team lead in various phases of complex data oriented initiatives.
Participate in, or facilitate, business process and requirement sessions to fully understand the requirements and the data necessary to support
those requirements.
Ensure that data requirements are translated into a logical data model that includes an entity-relationship diagram of entities, attributes,
key structures as defined by the Unum standard, for complex and/or enterprise-level initiatives.
Ensure that documentation is captured, maintained, understood by and available to business and/or IT partners.
Ensure that the Database Administrator and/or Application Developer receive the information needed to build any new physical data structures and
ensure that variances between the logical and physical design are understood and documented.
Apply knowledge of the insurance business and detailed knowledge regarding the data stored in specific company databases with an objective of
re-use whenever possible.
Take a lead role in the development of information management practices.
Initiate work group discussions with other data analysts to share best practices, address training needs, achieve enterprise-wide consistency
in implementing data model changes, promote re-use, and improve data quality.
Completes administrative tasks, status reporting etc., as required by manager.
Mentor to Data Analyst I and II.

 
Job Specifications
 
5 - 10 years experience in insurance and/or information systems.
Proven knowledge/experience in logical and physical data modeling and normalization of data.
Experience with Enterprise Architect, CA Erwin, SQL
Experience with DB2, Sql Server and Teradata Platforms.
Broad, deep knowledge of multiple segments of the insurance business (i. e.  Group Products, Claims)
Knowledge of Data Warehousing
Strong knowledge of insurance company data, products and business practices.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
Proven presentation skills and facilitation skills.
Ability to explain complex concepts to a diverse audience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks while paying close attention to detail.
Good project management skills and strong organization skills
Excellent research and problem-solving skills.
College Degree preferred.
Meets the standards for this position, as defined in the Talent Management framework.
