Description:
The position is responsible for delivery, installation, server hardware configuration requirements, design, performance, maintenance, and monitoring of Oracle RDBMS systems. This is a hands-on role where significant participation in build and escalated support (on-call rotation) activities will be expected. As the preponderance of the projects this resource will be supporting are driven from the eastern time zone, the candidate will be expected to work standard ET hours (approximately 06:00-14:00 PT).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hands-on database physical build and maintenance of:
o Oracle 10g/11gR2 RDBMS, RAC, CRS, ASM
o Rman Backups & recovery
o Physical and Logical Standbys
o Snapshot / MV Replication / Streams
o Monitoring tools (AWR, Statspack, OS Watcher, Grid, etc.)
o Database Administration and Performance Tuning
o Install and manage Oracle patches
o Scripting PERL, Shell, etc.
o Experience with automation using Chef a plus
This is a hands-on role where significant participation in build and escalated support activities will be expected, including highly technical problem solving and / or performing technical audits of work done.
Participates in a team responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Oracle database servers.
Acts as a subject matter expert for the Oracle RDBMS and related technologies used within systems infrastructure, as well as a broad knowledge of all technologies used.
Contributes to the database design and planning process by delivering technical requirements and capacity analysis. Provides technical vision for specific areas of subject matter expertise
Interfaces with Software Development and Infrastructure teams and others to draft & approve detailed work plans and deployment schedules.
Will work with vendors to help maintain supported configurations for key platforms.
Provides input on new and existing processes and procedures based on industry best practices
Can organize, assemble and lead teams from multiple IT groups, and in some instances, may supervise daily work activities of assigned team(s)
Acts as a role model and mentor on technical issues
Demonstrates creative thinking and innovative approaches using multiple technologies and works to clarify technical ambiguity.
May be asked to participate in hiring and retention decisions
Some work responsibilities to include compliance activity and reporting on compliance activity.
Implementing best practices, new technologies, and consistent administration are expected as well as knowledge transfer and mentoring to other GID DBA team members
Accountable for creating and maintaining the infrastructure plans and ensuring that implementation of those environments are on time and on budget as well as preparing the weekly status on tasks, issues, defects to the project lead
Provide direction in Database technologies and disciplines including infrastructure administration, storage and other design, performance, architecture, backup and recovery, BCP architecture, patch administration (including Oracle CPU's) for Oracle Enterprise RDBMS, monitoring and tools
Ensure implementation of technical Database technology directions that meets standards and procedures that will optimize database architectures, reliability and performance
Work closely with Unix/Storage/QA/Performance/Deployment Engineers and Development teams
