1# Requirement
System Architect
Location: Golden Valley - MN
Duration: 6+Months



Senior resource with an engineering and operations background in complex multi tiered PCI compliant environments. The architect role is responsible for the design and execution of new infrastructure as well as the enhancement and improvement of existing infrastructure. The architect will work with sales in a pre-sales capacity to ensure that solutions sold to the customer can be built and that they can be transitioned to an operations team. The architect will work with the customer to understand their requirement and provide guidance and solutions expertise. The role continues with the engagement through detail design, lead implementation and into transition to operations. The architect serves as the last point of escalation for operations and must understand the infrastructure and solutions managed as a functional unit.

The architects day to day duties include participating in internal and external meetings, providing the client with the highest level of expertise on their managed infrastructure, being aware of the caveats and understanding the intention behind previous design decisions and ongoing design discussions. The architect interfaces with Professional Services, Implementation and Operations providing leadership to these three engagement groups. The architect works with Service Delivery leaders and the client to articulate risks and construct mitigation plans. The architect participates in change meetings as needed, drafting, reviewing and approving changes to the infrastructure as needed. The architect participates in structured load testing to evaluate the health of the infrastructure and insure that the infrastructure meets design goals.


• X86 based hardware platforms from HP
• Experience with blade systems from Cisco (UCS), HP
• Linux System Administration – RHEL4,5
• Vmware Vsphere 4,4.1,5 – VCP, VCAP-DCD, VCAP-DCA
• Knowledge of J2EE and its associated APIs (JMS, JDBC, JNDI).
• Experience working with JBOSS/tomcat application servers . Should have several years of administration/operations experience and the ability to configure, diagnose and troubleshoot J2EE application server concerns such as connection/thread pool sizing, race conditions, application deployment.
• Experience with high-end database servers such as Oracle, SQLServer focused primarily on tuning how application servers interact with databases, identifying performance issues related to application to database connectivity.
• Experience installing/configuring web server software (Apache) and configuring those installations to communicate with application servers.
• Familiarity with enterprise MOM (message-oriented middleware) such as IBM MQ
• Ability to understand and articulate multi-tier application architectures. Familiarity with infrastructure hardware such as switches, load balancers, SSL accelerators and the concepts of highly-available systems, clustering, failover and vertical vs. horizontal scalability.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage architectures: SAN, NAS
• Cloud architectures and cloud based applications and application stacks.
• Content Delivery Networks – Akamai, Gomez
• Ability to envision an enterprise architecture front to back and articulate to such diverse constituencies as project managers, clients, business stakeholders and systems engineers. The ability to identify and communicate different architectural options and their associated trade-offs is paramount.
• Ability to coordinate (with both project management and engineering) major systems events such as application upgrades, launches, load tests and deployments.
• Experience building enterprise systems with availability requirements approaching 99.99% and know operational issues arising from long lived server processes, troubleshooting, debugging and be able to recommend short and long term remediation actions

System Administration

Systems, Application, and Automation Engineer


Resource with an engineering and operations background in complex multi tiered PCI compliant environments. The systems engineer works on a multi tiered team to implement new services and improve existing services, procedures and documentation.

The systems engineers day to day duties are focused on ensuring incremental assets added to the environment conform to build standards and are implemented in a supportable fashion. The systems engineer works with chef to build servers, writes recipes for builds and improves existing recipes. The systems engineer is responsible for evaluating and coordinating the transition of servers and applications from a build phase to a stateady state operational phase.


• X86 based hardware platforms from HP
• Experience with blade systems from Cisco (UCS), HP
• Linux System Administration – RHEL4,5
• Vmware Vsphere 4,4.1,5 – VCP, VCAP-DCD, VCAP-DCA
• Knowledge of J2EE and its associated APIs (JMS, JDBC, JNDI).
• Experience working with JBOSS/tomcat application servers
• Experience installing/configuring web server software (Apache) and configuring those installations to communicate with application servers.
• Deep experience in Opscode Chef
• Deep experience in shell scripting
• Experience in other scripting languages a plus.
• Ability to understand and articulate multi-tier application architectures. Familiarity with infrastructure hardware such as switches, load balancers, SSL accelerators and the concepts of highly-available systems, clustering, failover and vertical vs. horizontal scalability.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage architectures: SAN, NAS
• Ability to coordinate (with both project management and engineering) major systems events such as application upgrades, launches, load tests and deployments.
• A willingness to learn new technologies and their applications in the enterprise.
• The ability to quickly understand and be able to articulate business impacts of technical decisions and drive solutions to specific business problems through the effective use of technology.
• The desire to learn and optimize technology and to operationalize solutions across a variety of business verticals and through various technologies.
