Description of position
The Cognos Developer position will be responsible for the successful delivery and support of high visibility Cognos reports and dashboards integrated into a retail software application. The position will involve working very closely with the DBA and Data modeling teams in a technical capacity to ensure proper data is loaded into the Data Warehouse and also working closely with the Product Owners to evaluate business requirements and advise on appropriate, informative views and dashboards.
Tasks and responsibilities
Creates Cognos reports based on technical and functional requirements.
Creates technical design based on business requirements.
Uses best judgement to decide which Cognos product to use when developing report
Performs query tuning in Framework Manager and Report Studio to achieve maximum performance while retrieving data from multiple data sources.
Defines and follow Cognos development best practices to maintain data standards, policies and practices.
Provides estimates for end-to-end reporting solution.
Assists others in utilizing the tools to the best of their abilities.
Performs any other duties as may be assigned or required
Required skills, abilities, and certifications
Basic understanding of Business Intelligence
5 years of experience in creating complex reports, dashboard applications and scorecards in the Cognos BI tool-set with a minimum of 1 year on the 10.x platform.
Deep technical knowledge with Report Studio, Workspace Advanced
Experience with using visualizations from Analytics Zone
Knowledge of Cognos Framework Manager
Strong knowledge of SQL
Ability to follow processes and execute project deliverable in a timely manner.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively negotiate with other teams to create a mutually beneficial solution.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests
Ability to work with a team
Recommended skills, abilities, and certifications
8 years of experience in creating complex reports, dashboard applications and scorecards in the Cognos BI tool-set
Experience with Active Reports
Experience within an OEM Cognos integration
Knowledge of Cognos Transformer and Cognos Cube Designer
