The Netezza Database Administrator is responsible to help in the implementation and support of a Netezza environment for Data Warehousing in Pitney Bowes.
Role Responsibilities include:
- Review implementation of existing Netezza environment and ensure setup is in line with best practices.
- Work with the in-house database teams and data warehousing teams to migrate data from ORACLE and SQL Server environments to a Netezza appliance.
- Coordinate and provide Netezza database expertise in resolving database and performance related issues.
- Support will include DBA related administration tasks e.g. Netezza including generating statistics for query performance, analyze query plans for execution, working with zone maps, troubleshooting ODBC connectivity issues, review logs, developing/reviewing basic DBA scripts using nzsql, workload prioritization and configuration, execute stored procedures, configure/review query history, backups, restores, monitoring of database relevant components and performance optimization where relevant.
Qualifications
- Three years' experience database administration experience with Netezza appliance.
- Good understanding of Netezza Architecture, Database Engine, Netezza Plan Optimizer and zone maps.
- Must have a demonstrated proficiency in using nzsql, nzload, external table utilities on Netezza.
- Experienced in Conceptual, Logical and Physical modeling specifically for Netezza database.
- Experience in Netezza Database Administration and Backup. - Restore operations is desirable.
- Experience in Netezza Migration projects from SQL Server and Oracle desirable.
- Good understanding of relational and dimensional database theory, architecture, design, and tools.
- Query and Database Performance tuning.
- Monitor and optimize system performance.
- Deep knowledge of Netezza SQL ability to tune queries to optimize performance.
- Experience in Capacity Planning.
- Knowledge of Netezza system tables.
- Strong in Red Hat Linux cluster configuration, monitoring and scripting.
- Solid experience in large cross-functional teams and the flexibility to influence people at a variety of levels
- Strong written and verbal communications
- Experience working with third party service delivery organizations
- ORACLE and/or SQL Server knowledge would be a strong asset
- Candidate must either be a citizen, have a valid green card, or current H1B visa. PB is not in the position to legally sponsor any candidate at this time
