Beyond the typical QA skills that are needed for a QA position that is focused on manual testing (2 – 5 years) please focus on the below items. The bottom two are listed as nice-to-have but have come back as the reason why they went with the "other" QA candidate.

Software QA Engineer

This is a mid-level manual testing contract position.  We're seeking someone with strong communication and organizational skills that works well in a self-directed, fast paced environment.

 

DURATION:

·       Start ASAP and extend to the end of June 2013, probably longer.

 

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Self-directed, with the ability to communicate effectively with developers and business users as this position must seek out information from others to complete assigned tasks.
• 2-5 years of manual software testing experience
• Experience using the following technologies in a development or testing capacity: SQL Server 2008r2, MySQL, and Oracle as well as XML and XSD. 
• More than two years of utilizing SQL in testing efforts.
• Experience gathering and documenting user, database, functional, and integration requirements.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Hands on experience with HP Quality Center.
• Strong debugging, coding, and analytical problem solving skills.
• 3+ years' experience with formal test methods and quality assurance programs including preparation and/or execution of formal test strategies/plans/cases/scripts/scenarios for system/integration/regression/browser and OS compatibility testing.

 

NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous business analysis experience.
• Experience with Java (JSE/JEE) and JavaScript.

• Creative problem solver with strong analytical, problem solving and prioritization ability.

• Experience with Jira for defect tracking
• Experience with CA Service Desk for incident management
• Experience with Oracle Stored Procedures
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, related field or equivalent experience.
• Automated testing experience with QTP.
• Negotiation skills.

 

KEY ROLE DELIVERABLES:

• Work closely with software architects, managers and engineers to create Test Plans in support of our software development life cycle
• Partner with business and user subject matter experts to develop test scenarios.
• Create and execute Test Cases and document and publish the results
• Review developer's unit tests.
• Facilitate integration testing.
• Provide QA Sign Off of new or modified code as a prerequisite for production deployment.
• Work in conjunction with developers, in the diagnosis, resolution and entry of software defects in the defect management tool.
• Execute Test Cases and log results in test management tool.
• Provide input to test planning and execution estimates to the QA Manager and the QA Lead.
• Update Project's Test Execution Scorecard based on template.
• Coordinate with other departments to create test data as identified in Test Planning.
• Identify gaps in Requirements and Technical Documentation and work with project team to resolve.
• Escalate issues posing threats to quality.
