Senior Engineering Manager

Overview:
We are looking for a talented Senior Manager to lead the design and development of key e-commerce and cloud technology initiatives. In this role, you'll be called upon to lead small teams of skilled developers, engineers or solution architects and to grow the team. The ideal candidate is passionate about innovative architecture, software quality, and developer productivity. We're looking for a hands-on leader that is involved in the day-to -day activities including: stand-ups, iteration planning, coding, design reviews, and technical discussions to determine technical direction. Additionally, this leader will work closely with product managers, user experience teams, and other technical leaders to develop and implement innovative consumer-facing experiences and the underlying technology platform aimed at reinvigorating and rejuvenating the customer experience.
Ideal Candidates Should Have:
· A demonstrated background in working directly with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders
· Creative and innovation-driven mindset with the ability to articulate engineering design strategies related to scale, performance, security, and usability
· Ability to manage multiple projects while successfully navigating competing priorities, schedules, and resources
· Knowledge of modern web development technologies: Java, web services (REST), NoSQL databases, continuous integration, and automated testing
· Experience as a Technical Lead on a complex distributed systems project
· Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine, OpenStack, Rackspace cloud, etc.)
· Willingness to work with flexibility and coordinate on-call support engineers, including handling after-hours urgent work as well as normal working arrangements
· A proven track record of recruiting and retaining top-notch engineers
· Experience in Agile development methodologies, especially Scrum, Kanban, and/or XP
· Persuasive written and oral communication skills
· Passion for building top-quality products & services
· Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional projects
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent experience.
· 10 or more years of experience in technology delivery.
· 6 or more years of professional web development experience, including demonstrated expertise in hand coding HTML, CSS, Javascript and jQuery and a thorough understanding of basic web concepts (semantic HTML, SEO, accessibility, site performance).
· 4 or more years proficiency in one or more object oriented programming languages (Java, Ruby on Rails, Python, PHP).
· 4 or more years of expertise with debugging code and triaging issues.
· 5 or more years of team management.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience using version control systems such as SVN or Git.
· Experience with bug tracking software such as Jira or ClearQuest.
· Proficiency with UNIX/Linux command line.
· Experience with rapid UI prototyping and pairing with UX experts to quickly develop new designs.
· Experience with unit testing, test-driven development or functional test automation.
· Experience developing for mobile/tablet form factors.
· Experience implementing analytics tracking.
· Experience coding for web accessibility standards.
· Familiarity with HTML5 and CSS3.
