Sr. Database Admin 

8+ Month Contract

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop initiatives and strategies to promote and manage change in processes, tools and technologies.

• Develop solutions to complex problems with ingenuity and innovation while ensuring solutions are consistent with organization objectives.

• Represent organization as a prime contact on projects. Interact with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

• Formulate and enforce policies, standards and guidelines regarding databases and database management.

• Provide coaching, training and work direction to other DBAs within the team.

• Design and implement architectural solutions to promote a scalable, robust, and manageable environment.

• Troubleshoot and tune database environment and define performance thresholds.

• Work with business analysts and application developers to create and implement conceptual, logical and physical data models.

• Consult on database program design and review Transact-SQL and PL/SQL created by application developers.

• Provide technical guidance to database application development teams and assist with problem resolution.

• Analyze data access, integration, and storage requirements for databases.

• Define security and integrity rules.

• Ensure that Medtronic's systems and the information on them are protected in accordance with Medtronic's Information Protection Policies and Standards, as well as best Information Protection practices.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree OR 8 years of work experience in lieu of a 4 year degree or a combination of work and education to equal a 4 year degree

 

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

• 6-9 years of IT experience with B.A or B.S.; 4-7 years of IT experience with M.A. or M.S.

 

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 

• Experience with various Oracle products including RDBMS, Net, SQL*Plus and PL/SQL, Designer, Application Server, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

• Experience with various SQL Server products including MOM, Transact-SQL and the SQL Server Enterprise Manager.

 

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Vendor Certification (such as MCDBA, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Master)

• Complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, practices, and standards related to the Oracle RDBMS

• Full knowledge of industry practices in the areas of database design and support

• Experience with n-tier application and infrastructure architecture

• Data Modeling, relational modeling and physical database design

• Project management skills

• Technical writing skills

• Presentation skills

• Time management skills

• Communication skills consistent with constant customer contact and ability to understand customer requirements

• Mentoring and collaboration skills

• Practical knowledge RDBMS concepts and architecture

• Experience with implementation and support of database name resolution solutions

• Competent in O/S scripting and how the database interacts with O/S

• Ability to develop standard procedures and practices relating to databases and database management

• Ability to coordinate multiple resources to take medium to large projects to successful completion

• Analytical problem solving skills

• Prioritization skills

• Advanced degree in Computer Science or business related discipline
