The Video Server Operations DBA/SA is responsible for providing day to day support and assist in the overall strategic mission of the Video Server Operations Group. The team is responsible for the security administration, support, monitoring, strategy and design of MS Windows, RHEL, and Sun Solaris based Video Delivery systems to include the Back Office system infrastructure for video subscribers across the US.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a key member of the Video Server Operations Group to ensure the delivery of high quality video and back end support for multiple geographically distributed video markets. Serve as the POC for database server and operating system level issues for multiple Microsoft Active Directory Domains in multiple forests. Serve as POC for Solaris web application server clusters and LDAP authentication. Assist in administering multiple Microsoft SQL databases and custom report generation Propose and implement approved system enhancements (software and hardware
updates) that improve the performance and reliability of the systems infrastructure Involved in hardware procurement, system planning, upgrading, monitoring, testing, troubleshooting and servicing using skills as an experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures Resolve a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways Handle shift work, unusual hours, and on-call rotations as required Document and record system changes and enhancements
Qualifications:
Education / Verifiable Work Experience:
BS Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with 4 years verifiable experience or A minimum of 10 years verifiable work experience in a UNIX/Windows environment *Verifiable experience may be substituted for formal education at a rate of 3 years experience equals 1 year formal education
Required Skills:
Be able to work in a fast paced diverse work environment Familiar with new system installs and setup for testing, pre-production, production, and post production integrations (rack & stack, cabling (UTP), power requirements, OS install, initial config, system test) Must have a STRONG work ethic and the desire to excel Must be able to maintain a written record of activities performed for troubleshooting, future expansion, and/or system roll back Must be able to manage multiple projects at the same time and complete them in a timely manner Must be willing and able to research solutions to existing issues and be proactive to the prevention of unforeseen issues Must be a self starter and have the ability to work with little direct supervision Must have a general understanding of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008 operating systems. Must have a general understanding of Solaris UNIX systems to include High Available Clusters Must have a moderate to deep understanding of SQL databases to include MS SQL Server 2005 and 2008, MySQL, or Oracle Must have experience in creating new and custom SQL queries as well as troubleshooting new and existing stored procedures Must have experience working with geographically distributed systems and networks A proven ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel
Certifications:
Industry certifications are not a necessity but highly desired (Certifications must be current and have the ability to be verified with the issuing authority)
Acceptable Certifications Include but are not Limited to:
Microsoft, Cisco, CISSP, Red Hat, Solaris, Oracle
**Hours are TBD and will require on-call nights and weekend support.
