COBOL Developer  
11 mo contract

*upon offer, candidates must complete a background check*

The candidate selected for this position will work closely with existing Technical Leads, and COBOL developers on system design, coding, and system testing for the FedACH transaction processing application.
This position requires experience working on a high volume transaction processing application utilizing IMS and DB2.
Candidates for this position must be very effective working with others-including other technical resources, the business, QA, and management.
All candidates must possess excellent software development skills and experience.

Qualifications:

Excellent COBOL programming skills
Strong understanding of language features such as data structures, tables, search functions, copybooks, 88 level variables, and subroutines.
Excellent communication skills
In-depth knowledge of IMS and DB2 database design and database management systems
Knowledge and experience with TSO, Xpediter, CA7, JCL and Fileaid for Mainframe
Experience with Control-M preferred
Experience with ADW COBOL code generator preferred
Experience with Endevor preferred
Experience with projects involving high volume transaction processing is preferred.
Experience handling and managing large volumes of data (5000+ transaction / second)
Should have experience with tuning high-volume near real-time applications for performance and instrumentation of code for tuning and monitoring

Deliverables:
Design and code solutions based on approved requirements
Provide technical work estimates and task breakdown Participate in peer code reviews and provide support to QA/Prod during the test/migration process
Periodically be on-call to support Production applications

Responsibilities:
Serving as a COBOL developer, this person will work closely with existing Technical leads and COBOL developers on tasks involving system design, code specifications, coding, unit testing and system testing based on project requirements
Support architecture efforts by following and adhering to the standards set forth by the FedACH Information Architecture group and maintain the integrity of application architecture
Provides technical leadership and direction on medium to large projects.
Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer of COBOL skills to existing staff
Work with Business Analysts to understand the business requirements
Proactive communication with team members and management is essential as some key tasks may include issue identification and resolution, status updating, analyzing and reporting on alternative design solutions, etc.
Works closely with management and staff, both internal and external to the department, to define business and technical requirements for enterprise information systems.
