Desktop Architect / Project Architect
Candidate will engage as a key team player on all project work streams associated with the migration to Windows 7 and work with Enterprise Architecture to lay out reference architectures in the desktop (PC) and user space. We are looking for a technical architect with extensive experience with large scale Microsoft environments. Project Work Streams to include:
• Core Image Architecture for Windows 7 64-bit
• SCCM 2007 R3 - OSD Deployment
• Print Server migration
• Active Directory updates to Server 2008 R2
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Terminal Servers
• Group Policy and Group Policy Preference architecture and implementation
• Desktop Virtualization using VMware tools (View and Thinapp)
• Microsoft Office (2010) deployment
• Windows 7 deployment technologies
Candidate duties will include:
- Responsible for the establishment, development and promotion of technology direction, architecture standards and frameworks and governance related to the desktop operating environment working with the enterprise architecture team
- Provide guidance to Windows 7 Project Management and Technical Team Leads related to planning, design, build, and implementation of strategic desktop and client technologies
- Updating / Creating documentation required by the Enterprise Architecture team
- Review of technical alternatives and providing Pros/Cons
- Participation in Enterprise Architecture activities, including but not limited to:
Technology Review Board presentations
Reference Architecture reviews/updates
Attending Windows 7 project meetings
Working with contracted resources to manage processes and establish technical solutions for the desktop/client areas at Xcel Energy
Requirements MUST have experience using:
- Architecture Deliverables will include, ability to create and maintain:
o Desktop and Software Distribution reference architectures
o Project architecture deliverables, including: architecture overview, decisions, system context, system information model, network model, infrastructure model, integration architecture and design, security model, and non-functional requirements
- Windows 7 64-bit (Minimum 2 years)
- Active Directory (Minimum 4 years)
- System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 (Minimum 3 years)
- VBScript or PowerShell (Minimum 1 year)
- Change Management processes and procedures (Minimum 1 year)
- Microsoft Office and Windows deployments including imaging (MDT), user profile management and software distribution to PCs
- Familiarity with architecture methodologies (such as TOGAF or Zachman)
Candidate should ideally possess:
- At least 2 years working with architecture artifacts and reference architecture documentation
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a Desktop Engineering role
- At least 5 years of relevant experience providing opinions on strategic direction to take related to Microsoft network and workstation technologies
- At least 3 years of relevant experience working with Active Directory in an enterprise with more than 7,500 end points
- Relevant experience working with MSI/MST install packages
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiar with mobile technologies
- Familiar with server technologies (Windows required, Linux/Unix suggested)
- Familiar with networking and connectivity technologies in an enterprise environment (DHCP, DNS, Firewall, WINS, networks, etc.)
- Familiar with File and Print services setup and management
- Familiar with the requirements of supporting desktop/client devices in an environment where highly available requirements exists (i.e. plants and critical service centers)
Candidates should possess good problem solving, data analysis, design, and testing skills.
· Candidates must also have strong interpersonal skills.
· Candidates should be self-starting and capable of working independently or in groups.
· Candidate should regularly communicate and share knowledge, including upward communication of work status (e.g. to project managers, leadership, etc)
Key Responsibilities
Technical
· Write new software code, make modifications to existing software code, or integrate software applications in modules in accordance with agreed upon specifications provided by others.
· This individual will work closely with users, technical leads, project managers, and other cross-functional development teams to software solutions. This includes writing software code, making modifications to existing software code and integrating applications within the core pathway
· This individual must develop software code using disciplined software development processes, adhering to team/company standards and software best practice guidelines, and corporate policies.
Quality
· Delivering quality software code to our Product Development team is an important function of this position. This individual will be responsible for creating and executing unit and integrations tests to ensure the software is meeting requirements.
Project/Team
· This team works in an agile environment whenever possible and team members are responsible for participating in project planning sessions with team members to analyze development requirements, provide design options, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work.
· Provides timely status updates for areas of individual responsibilities within projects to lead and manager.
· Deliver software code per the appropriate iteration schedule.
