Job Purpose:
Installs, configures, and provides consulting around the use of Subversion (SVN) in replacement of a ClearCase code repository. Includes migration of code to new repository, coaching on branching/merging and other code management, and training of key users as well as system administrators for ongoing maintenance. SVN to be used as part of overall Agile delivery environment.
Primary Objectives:
• Collaborate to recommend branch/merge strategies.
• Installation and configuration of Subversion (SVN) in transition from ClearCase.
• Provide guidance and assistance for migration strategy and activities from ClearCase VOBs to an SVN repository.
• Assist with the migration of CM repositories.
• Provide best practices of migration and usage of SVN.
• SVN Needs to be installed by end of October.
Secondary Objectives:
• Assist with process assessment and modifications as needed to allow for tool and system usage. Not a primary need, but want to make sure that it's covered adequately from a migration perspective.
• Collaboratively work with existing teams to make changes to associated systems as needed.
• Assistance with transition of Subversion to support staff for regular operations.
Duties:
• Evaluation of current configuration management tools, infrastructure, and process.
• Analysis of branch strategy, and build/deployment process.
• Analysis of DISTRIBUTED team members access and usage with appropriate recommendations.
• Analysis and planning for repository data migration.
• Analysis of process changes and training required.
• Define Future State and Prepare rollout plan.
• SVN Tool Installation and Configuration on the existing server(s).
• Enable and drive a staged data migration.
• Work with key stakeholders to make process changes as needed.
• Iterate through other changes as needed (deployment, associated script help, etc).
• Familiarization of tool for support staff and users.
• Creation of best practices documents and leverage of available tools as possible.
• Testing of modified SVN system.
• Work with support staff and key users to fully test out the system.
• Gather feedback and refine the tool and configuration as needed.
• Prepare for full deployment and repository migration.
• Turn on/deploy to full user community.
• Complete any final training as needed.
• Create best practices documentation.
• Provide post implementation support as possible.
Deliverables:
• Detailed configuration management deployment approach including recommended changes to other related systems and repository migration.
• Ensure there is a clear understanding of the associated process changes needed; as well as appropriate training on any process changes.
• Modified SVN system including new installation and configuration & necessary server configuration changes.
• Data Migration from ClearCase VOBs to SVN repository.
• Assistance with mods to deployment components, scripts, testing/automation, as possible.
• Training of support and key users, including offshore users (remotely) as needed.
• Testing and refinement of installation and configuration.
• Test Report with acceptance by key users and support staff.
• Refined Subversion deployment and transition plan as needed
• Finalize training for general user community as needed.
• Turn/on full deploy to users.
• Subversion best practices guide.
• Provide Support post installation for issues that arise.
Skills/Qualifications:
• 5-8 years direct experience performing the activities listed.
• Subversion installation and configuration, and any related server configurations.
• Code repository migration from ClearCase to Subversion.
• Branching/Merging/Code Management expertise for Agile and non-Agile teams.
• Scripting modification for existing and/or new deployment, testing, and related functions.
• Process understanding and ability to design and/or recommend new processes associated with usage of Subversion.
• Ability to train key users and admin staff on usage of SVN.
• Ability to create clear usage guidelines, best practices, and project summary.
• Understanding of Distributed SVN usage and best practices.
• Ability to understand and migrate data from ClearCase VOBs to SVN.
