Software Engineer
Thomson Reuters' next generation decision support tool, Advantage Suite 4.0®, is based on the leading technology platform in business intelligence. Advantage Suite enables large employers, health plans, and government agencies to aggregate and integrate healthcare claims data and other information from diverse sources and systems; organize, standardize, and enhance the data; and conduct sophisticated analyses that inform and improve management decision-making.
As a member of the Advantage Suite development team you will be working with a team of highly-skilled application developers on an exciting, challenging, and high-profile project. You will be working in a high-performance environment where cross-team learning and collaboration is strongly cultivated.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, document, and maintain code.
- Estimate and plan development work, track and report on task progress, and deliver work on schedule.
- Work within a structured development environment that includes Lean development methodology, version control, automated unit testing, automated builds, writing appropriate technical documentation, design reviews, and other structured development practices.
- Document coding and design activities necessary for the proper installation, maintenance and operation of the software.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience developing commercial software applications in a structured software development environment.
- Significant (2+ years) hands-on experience with Java, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), experience working with relational databases and solid familiarity with software design patterns.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills, design skills, technical writing skills, and problem-solving ability.
Desired Qualifications:
- Use and development of Web Services, SOAP, XML, etc.
- Familiarity with relational database concepts such as data warehousing, star schema, SQL, OLAP technology and tools such as Analysis Services, MDX.
- Experience with business intelligence tools such as Cognos or BusinessObjects.
- Experience with developing rich internet applications using AJAX, Flex, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Linux and UNIX environments.
- Agile development experience including test-driven development.
- Experience with JUnit, Ant, CruiseControl.
