Desktop Engineer
4-6 mo contract
Responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining standardized Windows desktops in a large 5000+ end-user-system environment using enterprise management tools such as Active Directory, KACE and IBM Endpoint Manager. Work with a team responsible for standardization and management of end user technology.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Hardware Program
Identify end-user hardware standards to be deployed within the enterprise. Evaluate new products as released from vendors. Interface with users regarding products delivered and determine additional needs. Interface with vendors to keep abreast of new products and to relay issues.
Image Development and Software Management
Develop images and deployment processes for installation, re-installation, and migration of Windows desktops using Windows 7. Work with other team members to standardize desktop software. Maintain up-to-date system images based on changes in software or standard hardware. This position is also responsible for application-repackaging and Operating System deployment.
Software Delivery and Patching
Develop, implement, and maintain tools and processes for delivery of approved software to desktop systems. Work with others to define and maintain standard enterprise software. Test new versions of standard software prior to packaging and delivery. Generate scripts using VBScript, PowerShell, AutoIT, and WMI. Develop processes and tools for maintaining all software delivered through the standard image or through the software delivery process.
Tier 3 problem resolution
Identify solutions to problems or issues that cannot be resolved by Tier 1 & 2 support staff. Activities include researching problems and identifying solutions. Must also possess the ability to interface with the developer/manufacturer to identify solutions and support pre-release software that may be under evaluation.
End User Technology assurance
Understand the impact of end-user technology on relevant business processes and develop systems and processes which provide continuity, fault-tolerance, and rapid response capabilities. This may include backup strategies, system restore procedures, and mobility solutions.
Responsible for documenting processes, configuration, and operational procedures for assigned tasks.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- The position requires a minimum of five years professional computing experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Must have demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills - Experience in Windows desktop products as well as experience in enterprise tools used for management of systems required
Must also have scripting knowledge as well as application packaging experience - Experience with windows 7 migrations
- Strong skills in scripting
Preferred Skills
- Strong working knowledge of Software management products, including System Center Configuration Manager and KACE
Previous experience with VDI - Previous experience managing Apple Computers in a corporate environment
- Good documentation skills, including the ability to prepare simple instructional documentation
