Data Base Administrator
Location: Ashburn, VA
Duration: 4 Months contract

Skills Required:
The Senior DBA will support the operational tasks of converting a Biomedical Oracle database into a static 'retired' state solution. In addition, the Senior DBA will assist in the design of the end solution, negotiation of requirements, and the development of a basic lookup front end. The DBA should have 5+ years experience in areas listed below.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide management, administration, and support coverage for DBMS environments
• Assist in defining technical architecture and standards around DBMS
• Report on database access, and create, modify and report privileges associated to End User accounts on all DBMS
• Perform the following retirement project functions:
• Implement a fix or a workaround for appropriate DBMS design/retirement issues
• Implement and manage bridge calls to resolve incidents as necessary
• Record events in a timely manner
• Provide escalation notification and logging to appropriate management contacts during critical situations
• Work with peers and management in support of project initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in progressively responsible positions in information technology within a large, complex organization.
Certification
SQL Server DBA Certification desirable
Oracle DBA Certifications desirable
Specific qualifications/experience required include:
Support monitoring and maintenance of many Oracle databases and instances (version 8 through 12i & be responsible for production and test SQL Servers supporting Biomedical applications
Have in-depth experience with all technical aspects of Oracle database engineering
Significant experience with SQL Server database and application upgrade projects for organizations of comparable size, complexity and geographic distribution to Red Cross.
Troubleshoot Problems
Experience working on backup and recovery of the databases
Windows, Solaris Unix operating system, HP-UX and AIX, Linux Operating system
System Administration
Disaster Recovery concepts and procedures
Manage sharing of resources amongst applications and instances.
Should have sound communication skills with management, development teams, vendors, systems administrators and other related service providers.
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
