Position: Sr Java Developer w/AWS

Location: Knoxville TN

Duration: Long-term Contract

 

Description/Role & Responsibilities:

• Client is looking for a talented software engineer in our Content Delivery group. 
• Our Client leverages in-house and cloud technologies to meet the ever-increasing demands for our content to be viewed on the growing area of platforms and devices. 
• Our Client always striving to improve the way we build software. 
• Our Client leverages proven technology and modern engineering practices to accelerate our time to market.  
• The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of the web with a bias towards modern client-side web development.  
• Recent technical discussions have included mechanisms of session affinity; design considerations for sessionless applications; identity management and reverse proxies; code reuse; front-end build packages and dependency management tools.
• Successful people at Discovery are amicable, intellectually curious and eager to learn new things, and can effectively deal with and even capitalize on ambiguity.
• Serve as a team member contributing to the efforts of the development team, including internal and external/vendor team members.
• Drive continuous improvement in Discovery's software development efforts by instilling best-of-breed engineering practices.
• Design, develop, modify, and implement software components anywhere in the stack – from server-side RESTful services to client-side JavaScript code.
• Assist in task planning, and estimation.
• Review the work of other peers on project teams.
• Work in close partnership with other team members and other teams.
• Promote proper best practices for agile scrum, including the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

 Backend:

• Java 8
• Spring Boot
• Web Services (Mostly ReST) using Micro Service Architecture.
• Gradle for Build Management
• Basic Knowledge on AWS (ELBs, EC2, SQS, SNS, RDS) and some related frame works like SpringCloud
• Strong SQL using Postgres Database
• Spring JPA or other ORM frame works like Hibernate, MyBatis
• Exposure to Agile, CD/CI environment and tools like Jenkins 

Frontend:

• Angular
• JavaScript/Html/CSS
• NPM for build management
• Other front-end frameworks they mentioned are plus. 

Education:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
